Chris Wikaira - consultant
Chris Wikaira’s tribal affiliations are Ngati Maniapoto, Nga Puhi and Pakeha. He brings an important perspective to the work of the consultancy, providing advice to Maori organisations on how their views can be communicated effectively. He provides advice to private and public organisations on how to engage with Maori at hapu, iwi, regional and national levels. Chris is a highly talented and experienced communicator. A former radio journalist and announcer, he was Radio New Zealand’s Maori issues reporter, covering a wide range of Maori issues, In 1999, Chris won the Waitangi Fisheries Commission’s journalism award for his coverage of the highly complex Maori fishing settlement with the Crown. In 2000, he won the prestigious Bill Toft Memorial Fellowship at the Qantas Media Awards. He has been the Chair of Kawea te Rongo, the National Maori Journalists Association, and of the Advisory Committee to the Waiariki Polytech Maori Journalism Course. He also sits on the Communications Commission of the Anglican Church.
